Citizens Advice Wirral have won a national award for going above and beyond supporting the wellbeing of their staff and volunteers during the Covid 19 pandemic. The national charity Citizens Advice, which has 220 local Citizens Advice offices as members, awarded Citizens Advice Wirral, the ‘Championing Wellbeing’ award
Citizens Advice Wirral has been helping more clients with complex mental health and/or addictions since the start of the year. Recognising the impact this could have on their own staff and volunteers they set up a Wellbeing Team to support colleagues during this time.
The Wellbeing Champions volunteer their time to run the programme alongside their normal duties of supporting clients. Activities which all colleagues are encouraged to take part in include Wellbeing Tea & Chats, Time to Talk sessions and themed virtual wellbeing lunches. A “Wellbeing at Work” intranet website was developed, with over 100 staff and volunteers contributing to the sections such as Working from Home, Coping Calendars, Sleeping Well, Positive Stories, Relaxation tips and feel good activities such as photos, recipes, and not forgetting our furry companions – a “Pet Factor” competition too!
Carol Johnson-Eyre, Chief Executive Officer at Citizens Advice Wirral, said “The impact of the Wellbeing Champions has been significant. Sickness has been low and a culture that supports the positive wellbeing experience at work has been encouraged. This has meant that more people in the Wirral community have been able to access our advice and social prescription services, with the wellbeing ideas and tips also being shared with family, friends and clients.”
