Our Trustees
John
Originally from Liverpool, he emigrated to Canada with his family before returning to Lancashire. He also served as a Non-Executive Director for Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. John is a retired Chemical Engineer with a rich background working for multinational companies and running his own consultancy. Now fully retired, John dedicates his time as a volunteer GCSE Maths tutor in Liverpool and a trustee at Citizens Advice Wirral.
In his free time, he enjoys supporting Liverpool FC, staying active, travelling, and reading.
Karl
Karl has been a trustee and board director and non-executive director and chair in different sectors, for over 14 years, including the Wirral Development Trust and Wirral Play Council.
He was also an elected councillor for the Leasowe and Moreton East Ward for 4 years, and served on a number of key committees, including the Regeneration and Housing, and Audit and Risk Management Committees.
His dedication to local service and community support makes him a valuable asset to our board.
Chris
He has worked for a number of Postal and Distribution companies latterly as a Project Portfolio Manager, but has had a number of roles in his career ranging from retail area management, client relationship management, and product management.
His wide-ranging commercial experience, combined with his voluntary work in administrative support at Citizens Advice Wirral, equips him to contribute effectively as part of the Trustee Team in supporting the organisation’s mission and objectives.
Gavin
Kara
Her work focuses on improving the student experience, and ensuring students are supported throughout their time at university. Kara’s connection to Citizens Advice runs deep, as she was born and raised on the Wirral and is passionate about making a local impact. She serves as the board’s Safeguarding and Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Lead.
In her personal time, Kara is a dedicated animal lover and outdoor enthusiast, keeping fit with aerial hoop activities.
Janet
With over a decade of work with international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) in Malawi, Sudan, Sierra Leone, and Cambodia, she has a deep understanding of the vital role support services play in people’s lives.
In her free time, Janet enjoys travelling, walking, cooking, and exploring historic places. A special highlight of her journey is her beloved black-and-white cat, who adopted her in Cambodia and now enjoys a sunny spot in her UK home.

Parker has previously worked as a Director within a large international organisation based in London, operating to recognised quality standards as part of a FTSE (Financial Times Stock Exchange) 100 company.

Originally from Hong Kong, Parker now lives in the UK and is passionate about supporting Wirral residents, particularly people from ethnic minority backgrounds, to improve their lives and wellbeing.
Outside of work, Parker enjoys cooking for his family and values the time spent together around the dining table.
Anel-Mari
Anel began her career in Human Resource Management in South Africa and has since worked across South Africa, the UK and Europe. She has worked across a range of sectors, including higher education, hospitality, aviation and technology, with a strong focus on service improvement, leadership and inclusive workplace cultures.
With over 17 years’ experience in senior roles, Anel-Mari has led nationally recognised service improvement projects, contributing to research and conferences. A strong advocate for neurodiversity, she draws on her own lived experience to promote understanding, fairness and belonging, values which align closely with her role as a Trustee at Citizens Advice Wirral.
In her spare time Anel is kept very busy looking after her 4 adopted dogs. She is also a keen lego builder and has built 26 sets this year around working towards her Masters degree in Social and Organisational Psychology.
